Writers' Summer Camp with Joyce and Marjetta!

Now that Marjetta has a beautiful home with a pool and Joyce
has the summer off from crazy theater projects…this was bound to happen. We’ve joined forces and come up with a series
of two one-day workshops and a weekend retreat so you can sharpen your
submission skills over the summer (or just get away from home and catch up on
your writing) in a happy atmosphere with other writers, some wine, and did I
mention the pool?
Here’s how it works:
In July there will
be all-day Saturday workshops.
First one is July 11, from nine a.m. to four p.m. The focus is on voice and working on your
first page. There will be presentations
and read arounds, but you may also exercise the option to just come and write. Price--including snacks, lunch, and private consultations--$100.
Second is July 25. Again, nine a.m. to
four p.m. Focus will be on refining your
concept and writing a query letter.
Again, you can sit in for the sessions and reads or you can just find a
spot and write. Cost again is $100,
which includes snacks, lunch, and private consultations.
Weekend Retreat –
August 14, 15 and 16.
The focus of this one is plotting and writing your
synopsis. As with all of these, the
presentations, read arounds etc. are optional if you would just prefer to
write.
Friday night starts at 7 p.m. is an optional meet and greet
and mixer. Everyone brings a dish--just a way to get to know you fellow writers
and set goals for the weekend.
Saturday starts at eight a.m. with breakfast, writing and
optional presentations, lunch, more writing, private consultations, swimming, etc. Saturday evening we go into downtown
Hollywood for dinner and sight seeing.
Sunday starts at eight with breakfast, then writing and
optional presentations, private consultations, lunch, writing and optional read
around at the end of the day around four p.m.
Cost includes the retreat itself, breakfasts and lunches,
$200 for the weekend.
Hotel is separate
and Marjetta has found a very cool one in downtown Hollywood that is both
affordable and charming. If you book fourteen days in advance, the cost is $92

Package deal: If you sign up for both one-day workshops and
the retreat the total cost is $350 instead of $400 and you get a critique of
your first page, query and synopsis by either Joyce or Marjetta.
